Commander's/President's Special Project

Established in 1925, the VFW National Home was created as a home for widows and orphans of deceased veterans. The idea to build such a home came from the Military Order of the Cootie. However, it was through the efforts of a 23-year-old girl from Detroit named Amy Ross that the idea became a reality.

Supreme Seam Squirrel Mark Larkin’s and Supreme President Billie Cassidy’s SPECIAL PROJECT is a dual project with 1. Continuing support of the music program, by supplying the families with starter Pianos and drum sets to practice their lessons at home. 2. Hives to Heroes start up program at the VFW National Home to coincide with counseling program to help Veterans and families cope with those difficult times and issues that confront them.

This is a start-up program designed to become a VFW National program that will hopefully become self – sustaining. It will be done in phases starting with the Veteran and family first and then focus on the older children and become of the current 4H program under the Non-Livestock category.
